During that time, it feasted on whales and other large Marine mammals and made its presence known from waters off Peru to Australia and even Antarctica. This massive creature once dominated all of Earth’s oceans some 23 million years ago. Not only was it big, but its jaws were packed with 300 teeth – each one around 7 inches long – making it one of history’s most formidable and dangerous apex predators. Known as the megalodon, this giant shark could reach up to 59 feet in length, nearly identical to the size of a Boeing 737 passenger plane.
